Immanuel With Us
by Ann Robinson-Worley
“Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.”
Luke 2:14-15
Behold, a Virgin shall conceive, and bear a son,and shall call his name Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14 And she shall bring forth a son, and you shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Matt 1:21 He came for our salvation. He came to be with us and to dwell among us. He was given unto us as a gift from our Heavenly Father. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John 1:14 The Heavenly Father sacrificed his own son that HE might reconcile us unto Him. He made the determination that HE was going restore the relationship that was lost with mankind when Adam and Eve sinned in the garden. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. John 3:16-17 God was in Christ thus His name is called Immanuel. God is with us!
To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 2 Cor 5:19
God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. 1 Timothy 3:16
Our Heavenly Father established for us a new form of government. No longer were we to be trodden under foot as is the case with every form of government that His people had been encountering. But instead, we are to be carried upon Jesus's shoulders just like a true shepherd carries his sheep.
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
And I will clothe him with my robe, and strengthen him with my girdle, and I will commit my government into his hand: and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah. And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. Isaiah 22: 21-22
His form of government is "Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church" Ephes 1:21-22
Jesus took all of our sins and offense upon his shoulders and imparted his righteousness unto us. Jesus knew that HE had been given this power to rule and reign in Heaven and in earth and yet HE chose to die on the cross for our sins.
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Matt 28:18 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. Rom 5:21 He said, "All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knows the Son, but the Father; neither knows any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him." Matt 11:27 Thank God for His government!
Jesus is our wonderful counselor our Prince of Peace!
The Priests of Israel were expected to bring peace offerings for an atonement of Israel's sins that they might receive forgiveness. Jesus made the supreme peace offering for us. This is why HE is our Prince of Peace.
Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
Hebrews 2:17
For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
Hebrews 4:15
